This a steampunk novel centered on Rose's search for her father. Everyone tells her that her father was killed in an explosion in his laboratory, but she doesn't believe it. When she receives a message from her father telling her that he was kidnapped, she sets out to find him, even if means dealing with every nefarious character in London.
Of course there is an airship, a butler, Rose's clockwork cat, a volcano, and a mad scientist conspiracy. Fortunately for Rose, she was trained by her actress mother and her scientist father and she's up for anything. Well, almost anything. Her great aunt has Ideas about Rose and a Proper Marriage.
I'm hoping this will be a steampunk romantic comedy. We shall see.
Rose sat on the chest of the rather large unconscious gentleman. Occasionally she would toss a prune into the detritus of the alley and watch the denizens carry them off. She did not care for rats, but there were very necessary for the next stage of the plan. If only this oaf would wake up!
Here is a quote that reflects Great Aunt Agatha's view of life.
No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets.
- Edward Abbey
